    Assistant Professor of Practice, Department ChairDance

    Linda Garofalo is a full time Professor of Practice in the dance program at Goucher College, and has been on faculty since 1998. She was recently honored with Goucher’s 2021-22 Teaching Excellence Award for Non-Tenured faculty. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance from Towson University and has trained professionally at various institutions including the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Harkness Center for Ballet Arts, Texas Christian University, and the Hartford Ballet (CT) where she completed her teaching certification in 1986 under the tutelage of Enid Lynn, Diane Fleming, and Michael Uthoff. Her creative work has been performed on and off campus by various companies including: the Goucher Repertory Dance Ensemble, The Baltimore Collective, Surge Dance Company, and Inertia Dance Company at Carver Center for Arts and Technology.  Past works, Life’s A Toon (2009) and With Grace (2014), were chosen to represent Goucher Dance at the Mid-Atlantic American College Dance Association Conferences. Theatrical collaborations include working with Goucher’s theatre department as choreographer for a multi-media, interdisciplinary production titled, Attack of the Monster Crabs.

    Linda served as the director of the Goucher Summer Arts Institute from 2004-2013, designed and leads the dance program’s community outreach program, The Moving Classroom Project, and has consistently taught as part of the college’s first year seminar program. In addition to her work at Goucher, Linda has served on the faculties of various institutions such as Connecticut Ballet Theatre, Hartford Ballet, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Carver Center for Arts and Technology, Sudbrook Magnet Middle School, and as guest faculty at her alma mater, Towson University.

    As a dancer, she has performed both nationally and internationally as a member of The Bridgeport Ballet Company (CT), Geulah Abraham’s Danceworks (NYC), Surge Dance Company of Baltimore, and in Edinburgh, Scotland, with The Ordinary/Extraordinary Dance Theatre.  She has also performed in the Baltimore area with Nancy Romita’s Moving Company, Vincent Thomas’ VTDance, Phoenix Repertory Dance Theatre, and Kinetics Dance Theatre. Her historical performance repertory includes reconstructions of Eleanor King’s Mother of Tears and Roads to Hell, and Helen Tamiris’ Negro Spirituals.
